Dorothy ‘June’ (Skinner) Duling
March 8, 1918 - March 29, 2009
Dorothy “June” (Skinner) Duling, formerly of Marion, died at 10:10 p.m. Sunday, March 29, 2009, at the Fairmont Rehabilitation Center, Kokomo.
She was born on March 8, 1918, in Marion, the daughter of the late Clarence C. and Gladys (Oden) Skinner. June married Meredith Duling, Marion, on May 8, 1939. They were married 67 years, when he preceded her in death Jan. 4, 2006.
She was employed at the Marion Shoe Factory. She graduated from State Beauty School in 1960. She owned and operated the Rainbow Beauty Shop in Sweetser and the Looking Glass in Marion. She then taught at State School in Marion and Wright Beauty College in Kokomo and Logansport until her retirement in 1989. She was a member of the Marion First Church of the Nazarene. In the 1950s she and her husband, Meredith, were instrumental in the “church planting” of the Home Avenue Nazarene Church (now Lincoln Boulevard Nazarene.) She and Meredith also sang together many years throughout several churches in Indiana.
Survivors include one son, Jerry Dean Duling, Kokomo; granddaughters, Leah Steere (Scott), Indianapolis, Rebecca Bowlin (Joshua), New Zealand, Ind., and Alison Nichols, Marion; four great-grandchildren, Garrett and Jessica Steere, and Cail and Averie Bowlin; sister, Clarell Nadine Graham (Elwin); and brother, John E. “Jack” Skinner (Martha), both of Marion; sisters-in-law, Lois Skinner, Colorado, and Hattie Duling, Kentucky; and many nieces and nephews.
June’s oldest son, Loren E. Duling, preceded her in death on May 19, 2005. Other family preceding her were a sister, Geraldine Jane Skinner; and a brother, Clarence “Buck” Skinner Jr.
An obituary certainly cannot tell the impact that June had on so many people throughout her long span of life. If she touched your life, then you know and feel her countenance.
Services are 10 a.m. Thursday at the Marion First Church of the Nazarene, 700 Kem Road, Marion, with the Rev. Eugene Vickery, Huntington, and the Rev. Greg Clark officiating. Burial will be in Grant Memorial Park, Marion. Visitation will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Raven-Choate Funeral Home, 1202 Kem Road, Marion, Ind. The family sincerely requests that in lieu of flowers contributions be made to The American Cancer Society or Gideons International. Online condolences may be made at www.ravenchoate.com.
